The 88th District

The Virginia House of Delegates 88th District includes parts of Stafford, Spotsylvania, and Fauquier Counties, the Town of Remington, and part of the City of Fredericksburg.

Every 10 years, after the national census, states and localities must redraw legislative district lines in order to balance the populations of each district. Redistricting in Virginia is completed with the exception of our Congressional districts.

In addition to district lines being changed, local precinct lines and polling places may have changed as well. Local voter registrars will be mailing out new voter cards with the new information on them. If you are unsure which precinct or polling place is yours, I encourage you to contact your local voter registrar.

Due to rapid growth during the last decade, all the districts in our area were over in population and had to shrink. The House of Delegates district I represent, the 88th, was over in population by more than 13,000 people. Parts of the district in north Stafford were transferred to the new 2nd House district and some precincts in Fauquier were shifted to other districts as well. The 88th district gained precincts in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania.

Here is the description of the new 88th district as it was defined in House Bill 5005, utilizing the OLD precinct boundaries (I know it may be confusing, but when the legislation was passed local governments had not yet adopted changes to local precincts, so the old precinct boundaries had to be used):

88th House of Delegates District includes part of Fauquier County comprised of the Lois, Morrisville, and Remington Precincts; part of Spotsylvania County comprised of the Brent’s Mill, Elys Ford, Grange Hall, Hazel Run, Ni River, Plank Road, and Wilderness Precincts; part of Stafford County comprised of the Hartwood, Ramoth, Rocky Run, and Simpson Precincts and parts of the Hampton and Whitson Precincts; and part of the City of Fredericksburg comprised of the District 1 and District 3 Precincts and part of the District 4 Precinct.
